From runway shows to off-calendar shows and presentations, New York Fashion Week was busy and booming this past week. We saw many American countryside inspirations, New York street-style and hyper feminine inspirations for some of these shows. After a busy fashion filled week, we have identified 15 key trends from New York Fashion Week that you can take inspiration from.

1. Liquid Gold Elegance

Gold is synonymous with wealth and excellence. We can see this extravagance displayed  in many runway shows such as Ralph Lauren, Frederick Anderson and Prabal Gurung. This trend is all about shimmery yellow gold which exudes royalty. A shimmery gold accent can make an outfit look elegant, luxurious and glamorous. It seems like gold, along with many more warm tones, are becoming increasingly popular, like butter yellow, browns, and leopard print (spoiler).

2. Fringes For Attention

Fringes, especially straw-like fringes, are signifying heat and summer. Think beach cabanas and tropical getaways—the perfect vacation vibe!It Many designers showcased straw-like fringe skirts and we love them! Pair one with a simple tee or button-up, add some accessories, and you’ve got an effortlessly chic look! Silky fringes are another type of fringe we saw on the runway, which gives a very different feel to the outfit. These 1920s-inspired silky fringes are made for dancing the night away—ideal for when the heat turns up and the party begins!

3. Very Cutesy Bows

Coquette-core has been trending on TikTok for a while now, along with women wanting to take on more traditional roles in relationships. These cultural shifts have impacted the desire for more feminine clothing. Bows signify youth, femininity, softness and cuteness. Prada already jumped on this trend at their Fall 2024 Ready-to-Wear fashion show and it is still very much trending and on the rise. During the New York Fashion Week runways for Spring 2025, we saw bows used on already feminine pieces, mostly on dresses. This charming embellishment added a touch of classic elegance, enhancing the timeless appeal of these designs. This trend is perfect for those looking to infuse a touch of classic femininity into their outfits. Whether it's a bow accentuating your hair, adorning your dress, or even adding charm to your socks like Naomi Osaka, it's all about embracing those delicate, traditional feminine details.

4. Sexy Wide V-Necks

New York Fashion Week 2024 has been a spectacle of daring styles and innovative trends, but one standout trend that has captured our attention is the wide V-neck. The wide V-neck offered a bold and sophisticated alternative to traditional necklines. From draping dress necklines to body-hugging silhouettes, highlighting its versatility and ability to flatter diverse body types. Designers used the wide V-neck to add a touch of sexy elegance into their collections, integrating it with intricate details and luxurious fabrics. This trend is set to be a key fashion statement throughout the next year, providing a chic update to any wardrobe.

5. Luxurious Silky Fabrics

Silky shiny sets, dresses and coats were seen on the NYFW runway. This fabric appears  to be satin, which creates a shiny texture. It is very luxurious, very expensive and very fragile, so if you want to add something satin to your wardrobe just be prepared. The New York Fashion Week runways were dripping in silky fabrics, showing off beautifully draped dresses and highlighting tailored blazers and coats. Silky dresses are perfect for events and are easy to find, while other silk pieces are more difficult to come by. However, with this trend on the rise, more brands will follow and we will be able to get our hands on some silky sets! I would suggest starting with some satin pants or a satin blouse to start your collection.

6. Subtle Off-Shoulders

Something we have been seeing more of this season is off-the-shoulder shirts and dresses. Very wide square openings, exposed shoulder/s and asymmetrical necklines are all trending for Spring 2025. This is a chic, different and classy way to show a bit of skin without making the outfit overly sexy. An open shoulder and exposed neck is the perfect place to spray some perfume and a sensual, yet modest place to expose - we’re sure your partner will love these silhouettes on you!

7. Completely Sheer

Sheer outfits are still in and they are here to stay! Mesh was seen through and through on the runway, with models having (almost) everything exposed. Of course to make this trend more practical for day-to-day wear, a bralette and shorts would be perfect under a fully sheer outfit. Lots of organza designs were seen, which created volume and added beautiful frills to the sheer silhouettes. You can play around with sheer items and even wear a sheer dress and bralette over long denim pants - it can be great for layering.

8. Drop Waist Dresses

In contrast with the usual cinched waist - wide hip ratio for dresses, a lower waistline is refreshingly different for Spring 2025. This style can be especially beautiful for ruched and flowy dresses in Springtime, and can become the new sundress. The rise of this trend is following the comeback of low-waisted pants from the 2000’s. Celebrities such as Madison Beer have popularised dressing for straighter body shapes and how low waist cuts look the best on them. Women with a more straight, less curvy body type are loving the low-waisted trend and have shared their styling tips on TikTok.

9. Double-Denim Statement

As seen at Copenhagen Fashion Week in August this year, denim on denim is going to be big from now on into 2025. There were many different denim styles on the runway, but we saw mostly a medium-wash classic blue shade and some more light-was blue. Distressed denim is also great, seeing as so many brands purposely make their products look worn out and older. American cowboy inspiration was a subtle yet undeniable thread running through many NYFW shows this season. So, when you're choosing your next denim set, keep the Texan aesthetic in mind.

10. Very Eco, Very Green

We’ve seen army green many times before, but eco- green is a bit different. As consumers are becoming increasingly aware of climate change, animal welfare and depletion of natural resources, brands have to adapt and become more sustainable. Fashion designers are displaying the need for sustainable design by wearing green and making a statement. PH5 is one brand that is determined to take action against climate change, with 95% of their Spring 2025 collection being made from recycled materials. Their fashion show was held in a garden and the message behind the collection was “get your hands dirty” metaphorically and literally. This need for humans to connect to nature is being displayed through green in fashion.

11. Ever So Elegant Lace

Lace took centre stage on the runway, with head-to-toe lace ensembles stealing the spotlight. Designers also played with intricate lace accents, incorporating them into statement garments and standalone pieces for a striking, romantic effect. Black lace stole the spotlight at New York Fashion Week, signifying an effortless blend of elegance, strength, and sophistication. Many of the lace looks this season embrace a sheer aesthetic, so make sure to pair your sheer lace with something opaque underneath to cover up. To master this look, be sure to layer your sheer lace over something opaque for a chic and polished finish.

12. Classic Plaid Patterns

As we have noted earlier, Gen-Z women are becoming more and more interested in becoming traditional wives who stay at home, cook and watch over their children. This also inspires a more laid-back, soft-life aesthetic that so many on TikTok have been longing for. These plaid patterns can remind us of these traditional attributes in the specific context of countryside living. Imagine waking up on a sunny Spring day, wearing your cute little plaid outfit, making food for the kids and spending time in nature.

13. Very Sexy, Very Fierce, Leopard Print

Leopard print first immersed in the 1920’s and was later used in couture by designers like Lanvin and Christian Dior. Now more than 100 years later, from runway looks to everyday street style, this bold pattern has found its place in closets everywhere. Fashion houses such as Frederick Anderson, LaQuan Smith, Luar and Theophilio showcased leopard print designs on the NYFW runway. It is a timeless classic, yet bold, sexy and fierce. To add even more flare to the statement print, designers used it to create flirty silhouettes paired with heels. When worn with confidence, leopard print can turn you into a fierce trend setter.

14. Feminine Voluminous Ruffles

Ruffles for Spring are always a good idea! It’s fun, flirty, girly, flowy and comfortable. Brands like LaQuan Smith, Lauren Manoogian and Love Shack Fancy created various flowy looks with big ruffles, signifying movement and femininity. Voluminous tulle can create a mild tutu effect, while softer fabrics drape and move more freely. Both of these styles are perfect for the warmer weather and we are going to be seeing more of it soon.

15. 3D Florals: The Bold Bloom

For Spring 2025, Designers are taking classic florals to the next level. We have seen an increase in the Hyper Texture trend over the past year, and it’s still going strong. 3D florals were a standout trend this NYFW, making a stunningly textured statement in every collection. It’s a fun new twist on Spring fashion and it gives more character to a piece.
