Chanel Spring 2025 Couture Collection: A Poetic Flight into a New Era

Chanel’s Spring 2025 Couture Collection, unveiled at the Grand Palais in Paris, marks a significant moment as the brand anticipates the arrival of its new creative director, Matthieu Blazy. If you had to think, ‘traditional Chanel, but make it spring’, you would get this collection. Serving as a bridge between the legacy of Karl Lagerfeld and the forthcoming vision under Blazy’s direction, it encapsulates both nostalgia and a sense of forward movement and reflects the house’s transition into a new era.

The collection draws inspiration from themes of flight and liberation, celebrating women who have transcended societal constraints, much like Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel herself. This homage is evident not only in the garments but also in the staging, which featured a grand, gilded birdcage at the centre of the runway—a symbolic nod to both confinement and the freedom that comes with breaking free as well as being a reference to the 1991 Chanel commercial that starred Vanessa Paradis and was directed by Jean-Paul Goude.

The creative studio infused the collection with a sense of lightness and airiness. Hand-knit pieces echoed the Art Deco ironwork of the Grand Palais which is a space that embodies infinite movement. Skirts with front slits, feathered collars, trailing chiffon capes, and platform shoes contributed to a fresh, youthful energy, while tailoring remained undeniably Chanel, which is very structured yet was softened by flowing details.

The colour palette transitioned seamlessly from sky blues to inky blacks, buttery yellows, and pastel hues reminiscent of sunsets, taking the audience on a journey from day to night. Classic Chanel fabrics like tweed and jersey were reimagined in these shades, with structured tweed sets softened by sheer chiffon sleeves and delicate Peter Pan collars. Little black dresses featured sheer cutout skirts resembling, while feather trimmings added an ethereal touch to various ensembles.

As one of Spring Couture Week’s most anticipated collections, the event drew an elite guest list, including Kylie Jenner, Lily-Rose Depp, Marion Cotillard, and Dua Lipa, all adorned in Chanel’s signature tweeds and timeless accessories.
