Jared Fynn: The Visionary Behind CloudHaus – How an Architectural Designer Transformed into a Furniture Artisan

In a fast-paced design world where trends come and go, few artisans manage to blend timeless appeal with contemporary flair quite like Jared Fynn. Transitioning from architectural design to launching his own high-end furniture brand, CloudHaus, Fynn has carved a niche in South Africa's design landscape that redefines modern interiors. Founded in 2024, CloudHaus has rapidly gained recognition for its unique and bold designs, attracting a clientele eager for pieces that offer both luxury and functionality.

As Fynn often shares on his social media platforms, CloudHaus began as a response to a gap he noticed in South Africa’s furniture market. "No one in South Africa was selling the furniture that me and my friends wanted," he explains. Instead of waiting for the right pieces to arrive, he took it upon himself to create them. Initially a passion project fueled by his love for design, Fynn’s creative journey went viral as he documented his process on Instagram and TikTok, quickly gaining traction and sparking demand. “One order led to the next, and social media played a huge role in spreading the word about CloudHaus,” Fynn recalls.

Before founding CloudHaus, Fynn had already explored various paths in the creative industry—from video agency ownership to influencer roles, and ultimately architectural design. Each experience contributed a layer to his approach at CloudHaus. "I've always loved the risk and reward of entrepreneurship,” he says, “but this venture feels different due to its scale and the rapid growth we’re managing."

For Fynn, architecture provided a solid foundation in design principles, but furniture allowed a new creative freedom. “Architecture is a wonderful field, but it’s also cutthroat,” he reflects. “Furniture design felt like a smaller, more intimate way to express my creativity.” This natural progression from large-scale design to furniture allows him to bring the same precision and vision to the pieces in each collection.

Fynn’s age has been an asset in shaping the distinct aesthetic of CloudHaus, bringing fresh ideas that resonate with his client base. "While my age could have been a hurdle, I’ve turned it into an advantage," he says. A major step forward was securing a showroom—a move that allowed potential clients to experience CloudHaus’s quality firsthand, alleviating any doubts.

One of CloudHaus’s most celebrated designs is the Pebble Couch, a piece that took multiple rounds of revision before Fynn and his team perfected its unique form and proportions. The journey was one of resilience and perseverance, and seeing the finished product brought unparalleled satisfaction. “Nothing matches the feeling of seeing a design go from sketch to reality,” Fynn shares. “Every order is exciting; it’s another opportunity to push the boundaries of what furniture can be.”

Fynn acknowledges that stepping into a new market came with challenges, particularly the internal battles familiar to many creatives. “Imposter syndrome is real,” he notes, “but I stay focused on delivering excellent work, day by day.” Maintaining structure has been essential in managing his growing business, and he credits a disciplined routine—including morning workouts and meditation—to keep him grounded and productive.

Running CloudHaus demands a fine balance between artistic vision and practical management, something Fynn approaches with equal passion. “Creativity and business are equally important in this venture,” he says. “The key is to have structures in place that connect the two, allowing me to stay true to my vision while scaling the company.”

Influenced by the entrepreneurial spirit of his parents and supported by friends in the creative space, Fynn finds inspiration close to home. His girlfriend, also an artist breaking new ground in South Africa, provides a unique form of mutual motivation and perspective.

Major Milestones and Future Aspirations

Securing the CloudHaus showroom in Johannesburg’s vibrant New Doornfontein area was a dream come true, offering a physical space for clients to connect with his creations. Reflecting on the journey, Fynn has ambitious goals for the next 3-5 years, envisioning CloudHaus as the premier choice in South African design. “In a few years, I hope CloudHaus will be a household name, synonymous with quality, creativity, and modern South African identity.”

CloudHaus has been involved in several high-profile projects that underscore its reputation as a premier furniture design brand:

The result is a serene, cohesive living environment that merges luxury with comfort.

  • Touched By October: A Commercial Masterpiece

This project required a delicate balance of durability and luxury, ensuring each piece met commercial demands without compromising style.

  • Frost Street Lofts: Mexican-Inspired Industrial Design

Fynn’s work at Frost Street Lofts embodies his ability to merge vibrant color with industrial design. In this loft project, pieces like the Ventura Steel Chair and Anabis Sofa accentuate the industrial architecture, while Mexican-inspired aesthetics bring warmth and personality. Fynn’s design approach marries the raw charm of exposed brick and concrete with the inviting richness of bold colors and textures.

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Fynn’s advice to budding entrepreneurs is simple yet powerful: “Don’t overthink it. Document your journey, build your audience with authenticity, and deliver a great product. The challenges will come, but it’s all about how you respond.” In Fynn’s journey from architectural designer to furniture artisan, he has proven that innovation, resilience, and a clear vision are the cornerstones of a successful brand.

With every collection, Fynn’s CloudHaus is redefining what South African design looks like, blending functionality and artistry into pieces that don’t just fill spaces but transform them.
