Keletso Morabas' collection, showcased at Cape Town Fashion Week: The EditSS24. The show, which was held at Hollywood Bets race course in Kenilworth, captivated the audience with its ethereal elegance and effortless sophistication. Dominated by a palette of pristine whites, the collection explored the beauty of fluidity, with flowing silhouettes that gracefully draped the body. Each piece spoke of the designer's mastery of texture and movement, offering a fresh take on minimalist luxury.
A true expert in monochrome, Moraba crafted a visual symphony by pairing voluminous, draped forms with a quiet, refined simplicity. While the collection was predominantly white, subtle pops of colour emerged sporadically, adding unexpected layers of dimension and intrigue. The purity of white evoked a sense of serene grace, while the delicate, almost weightless movement of the garments underscored the collection’s effortless sophistication. With this harmonious interplay of restrained colour and fluid design, Moraba offered a bold yet timeless vision of contemporary fashion—one that feels both fresh and enduring.
The men’s collection featured striking ensembles that captured the essence of Harry Styles signature flair . The pristine white suit, impeccably tailored, introduced a sharp, refined edge, while the lace polo-neck shirt beneath brought a perfect balance between sophistication and style, making it the perfect summer pairing, ensuring to keep one cool without compromising the fashion forward flare! The gentle bell sleeves of the shirt added a touch of opulence, elevating the entire outfit to a level of understated grandeur. This look is a true reflection of Morabas’ ostentatious yet minimalist style. Every element radiates boldness and individuality, capturing the essence of playful sophistication.
The off the shoulder jacket men’s look, with its tailored suit pants and delicate lace shirt, introduced a subtle twist by replacing the structured white jacket with a half on, half off approach, using a different fabric, infusing the outfit with a sense of bold sensuality. The modified neckline, taking on a more bib-like form, further transformed the aesthetic, adding a layer of intrigue to the fluidity of the looks. This piece has enough versatility to style differently for many occasions. The men’s collection redefined the male suit this season, paving the way for a more daring, flamboyant interpretation of power dressing.
These corseted ensembles are nothing short of showstoppers. The corseted, laced up mini dress was iconic, the dramatic presence of the rose shrug along with the fully corseted front elevates this look beyond the rest. The meticulously structured dress created a striking silhouette that demanded attention, the scooped neckline embraced femininity and drew the eye to the decalottage. The intricately laced up front gives a modern approach to the look, which is complemented perfectly by the expanding Baroque styled hip. The whole look is a regal masterpiece, however at the same time gives off the slight feel of a swanky garden party aesthetic. The delicate pinkish hue of the rose shrug provides a nuanced touch of character, effortlessly breaking up the monochromatic feel of the collection and adding depth to the overall look. I believe that the shrug adds so much artistic flare to the look and the “Florals? For Spring? [how] Groundbreaking” - (Miranda Priestly, Devil wears Prada).
The corseted, long, flowy dress created a captivating blend of ethereal charm, bridal elegance, and opulence. Every element demands a celebration of femininity: from the corset-inspired, almost floral bodice to the semi-sheer, flowing skirt, all the way to the dramatic cape and sweeping train—it's a true masterpiece. The delicate scalloped finish on the corset, evokes the softness of petals, while the intricate leafy print further amplifies the floral motif, weaving nature into the design. The bold lacing on the corset adds a striking touch of strength, balancing the delicate with the powerful, connecting it to the look on the left. This ensemble is a testament to Moraba's exceptional attention to detail and his unwavering commitment to creating bold, statement-making pieces that speak volumes.
These silky, Asian inspired looks gave a major “I’m living my best life at a luxury resort in Asia” aesthetic. The soft silky dress, effortlessly draped, exuded pure femininity. Its long length and loose mid-length sleeves keep things fairly modest, however there’s no denying the subtle sexiness of it. The unique cut of the fabric beneath the neckline adds an extra layer of depth and dimension, making this ensemble a perfect balance of grace and allure.
The structured yet relaxed men’s look definitely played into the holiday-in-Asia energy, with a nod to the timeless elegance of traditional Japanese attire, particularly in the top, which embodies the spirit of the Jinbei—a classic summer ensemble for men. The subtle champagne hue elevates the aesthetic, infusing it with a touch of luxury, while the sleek sneakers keep the vibe grounded and effortlessly cool. The collared shacket, crafted from a semi-sheer mesh fabric, adds to the relaxed yet refined look, making it the perfect pieces for a spring/summer collection. The innovative fold of the lapel introduces a modern twist to the Jinbei silhouette, infusing the look with a contemporary edge that makes it not just a nod to tradition but a forward-thinking take on seasonal style.
The silky, flowy dress echoed the essence of the previous look with its signature fabric, sleek silhouette, and effortlessly chic vibe—only this time, it came with a fresh twist that elevated it to new heights. The updated neckline elevates the design, shifting the energy from sultry to daringly edgy. The slits, now placed at the back instead of the sides, offer a subtle reveal of leg, adding a touch of intrigue. Meanwhile, the wide-open sleeves, finished with a structured cuff, infuse the garment with a fresh dynamic, transforming it effortlessly from day to night. For the perfect finishing touch, pair it with wet hair and a bold heel for a sultry, yet sophisticated look that demands attention.
The luxurious shirt and pants combination was the epitome of versatility, however tied into the overall feel of the collection tremendously — not only perfect for a luxurious resort getaway, but chic enough to take you just about anywhere. With timeless pieces that have been modernised, these essentials seamlessly transition from one setting to another. The silky, high-waisted pants are a true wardrobe staple, effortlessly elevating any outfit.
Whether styled casually or dressed up, they are a must-have in every fashion-forward closet. The long satin top is a simple yet undeniably classy, structured yet flowing with freedom. Its open front design is a brilliant detail for spring and summer, offering the perfect blend of elegance and comfort while ensuring you're kept cool. And then, there’s the hat—one of my personal favorites. At first glance, it may seem simple, but that long satin tie adds a playful and functional touch. It's not just a pretty accessory; it’s stylishly practical.
The warm terracotta shirt and pants combination, blended simplicity with striking visual impact. The use of the terracotta colour elevated the look, making it feel different to the more white based looks we had seen so far. Although this look is different to Moraba's usual glam style, this tailored top and short combination breathes new life into the collection, adding versatility and refinement. It's minimal yet bold, effortlessly cool, and refreshingly modern.
The final look perfectly encapsulated the essence of the entire collection to a tee, while standing out with its uniqueness. It seamlessly blended the nature aspect with an almost ethereal vibe. The skirt blooms like a delicate flower unfurling, while the top elegantly mirrors its stem and leaves—an homage to the blossoming spirit of spring and summer. This look evoked the romantic imagery of a luxe vineyard date or a sophisticated wedding guest in a field of wildflowers. It’s the ideal showstopper, a stunning conclusion to the runway, leaving us with a lasting impression of beauty and artistry.
Each piece of the collection exudes a sense of quiet opulence, with the flowing silhouettes accentuated by meticulously crafted details. Standout accessories add layers of intrigue, such as a dramatic rose-adorned jacket that serves as a statement piece, and Asian-inspired hats that evoke an air of cultural sophistication. These elements not only enhance the collection’s elegance but also infuse it with a sense of bold individuality, ensuring that every garment makes a lasting impression. Moraba's mastery is continuous and as we can see from this collection he will continue to give us looks that serve.
